PS4 certain blu-ray movies not working

0

Even with the latest firmware, as of this date, certain blu-ray movies won’t play in my PS4. The beginning chapters would play, but then the movie menu wouldn’t show up.

The fix:

Disable the Internet connection.

The problem seems to be related to BD Live features not working properly with certain movies.

Look up a MAC address from an IP address

0

If you want to look up a MAC address from an IP address, try the following:

Windows

nbtstat -A 192.168.1.10

Linux

sudo nmap -sP 192.168.1.10   (this only works when you are on the same subnet)

If you don’t have nmap install it with: sudo yum install nmap

Updating HP switch software using SFTP

0

There are a few different ways to go about updating HP switch software using SFTP, but I will cover the one I use.

Pre-requisites:

Download and copy pscp.exe to the folder that has your HP switch software (.swi file).

pscp.exe <user>@<ip address>:/cfg/startup-config backup-config

Set the switch to use SFTP via the command: 5406zl(config)# ip ssh filetransfer

Shift+Right-click on the folder that has pscp.exe in it, and choose Open command window here.

Example of a 5406zl switch with an IP of 192.168.0.1

Backup your current startup-config:

pscp.exe manager@192.168.0.1:/cfg/startup-config backup-config

See what your current software version is by typing:

5406zl# show flash
Image Size (bytes) Date Version
----------------- ------------ -------- --------------------
Primary Image : 14236446 11/06/12 K.15.04.0019m
Secondary Image : 15240674 11/18/13 K.15.10.0013m
Boot ROM Version : K.15.28
Default Boot : Primary

Check the config files to see which is active:

5406zl# show config files

Configuration files:

id | act pri sec | name
---+-------------+------------------------------------------------
1 | * * | config1
2 | * | config2
3 | |

Copy the active config for the secondary flash to use and set it for startup:

copy config config1 config config2
startup-default secondary config config2
write mem

Secure copy (SCP) the software to the switch:

pscp.exe K_15_10_0013m.swi manager@192.168.0.1:/os/secondary

Boot into the newly copied software:

boot system flash secondary

If it works fine, copy the secondary flash to primary and sync the configuration files

copy config config2 config config1
copy flash flash primary
write mem

You now have finished your update and kept a copy of your configuration for backup.

Compile cudaminer on CentOS 6.5 minimal

2

These directions assume a minimal install before you compile cpuminer on CentOS 6.5.

In order for NVIDIA drivers to work, you must remove the nouveau driver. The easiest way is to simply blacklist the driver in grub.

Append rdblacklist=nouveau to the kernel line: vi /boot/grub/grub.conf (I placed it right before the SYSFONT entry)

rdblacklist

Install the latest NVIDIA Linux 64bit driver:

yum update
yum install wget git kernel-devel gcc make curl-devel gcc-c++
wget -c us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/331.20/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.20.run
sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.20.run
# reboot after the installer disables nouveau
reboot
sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.20.run

Install NVIDIA CUDA 5.0 ..not the latest 5.5:

wget http://developer.download.nvidia.com/compute/cuda/5_0/rel-update-1/installers/cuda_5.0.35_linux_64_rhel6.x-1.run
sh ./cuda_5.0.35_linux_64_rhel6.x-1.run --extract=/root/cuda
cd cuda
./cudatoolkit_5.0.35_linux_64_rhel6.x.run
git clone https://github.com/cbuchner1/CudaMiner
cd CudaMiner
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/local/cuda-5.0/lib64:/usr/local/cuda-5.0/lib"
export PATH="/usr/local/cuda-5.0/bin:$PATH"
./configure
make

Execute cudaminer by copy and pasting this in one line:

LD_LIBRARY_PATH="/usr/local/cuda-5.0/lib64:/usr/local/cuda-5.0/lib" /root/CudaMiner/cudaminer -H 1 -l auto -o stratum+tcp://usa.wemineltc.com:80 -O USER.MINER:PASSWORD

Compile cpuminer on CentOS 6.5

1

These directions assume a minimal install before you compile cpuminer on CentOS 6.5. I use the tarball source because the git method did not compile.

Login as root or use sudo for the following commands:

yum update
yum install gcc make curl-devel wget
wget http://sourceforge.net/projects/cpuminer/files/pooler-cpuminer-2.3.2.tar.gz
tar xzf pooler-cpuminer-2.3.2.tar.gz
cd cpuminer-2.3.2/
./configure CFLAGS="-O3"
make
./minerd --url=stratum+tcp://us3.wemineltc.com:3334 --userpass=USERNAMEHERE:PASSWORDHERE

Windows 8.1 Lock Screen Timeout

0

To adjust the Windows 8.1 lock screen timeout, you will need to open an Administrator command prompt and use powercfg.exe.

Example: Setting the lock screen to 15 minutes instead of the default of 1 minute. (900 seconds = 15 min)

Copy and paste the two commands:

powercfg.exe /SETACVALUEINDEX SCHEME_CURRENT SUB_VIDEO VIDEOCONLOCK 900
powercfg.exe /S SCHEME_CURRENT

OPTIONAL: If you want to make this change using a GUI instead of powercfg.exe, you will have to make a change to the registry to unlock a hidden setting in power options.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\7516b95f-f776-4464-8c53-06167f40cc99\8EC4B3A5-6868-48c2-BE75-4F3044BE88A7]
"Attributes"=dword:00000002

Immediately after editing the registry, you will see a new option to adjust in the advanced power settings for your power plan.

Windows 8.1 Start screen Apps by most used sorting not functioning

0

The Windows 8.1 Start screen can be set to show the Apps view, and from there you have some sorting choices. I chose the Apps by most used sorting, however it always had Never Used at the top.

The fix was to right-click on the Taskbar, choose properties, go to the Jump Lists tab, and enable “Store recently opened programs.”

Store recently opened programs

I think this is enabled by default, but I had disabled this from my habit of customizing Windows 7.

Firefox portable with Java portable instead of a local JRE

0

Sometimes you will run into stubborn web applications that will only use a certain Java run-time environment (JRE). For these special cases, I prefer to download and use Firefox portable with Java portable instead of a local JRE.

In short, the steps below will have Firefox portable ignore the locally installed JRE, and use Java portable instead.

Example: Web app requires Java 6 Update 23

Download and install the following portable apps. Make sure when you install Java, that the CommonFiles directory is in the same path as the FirefoxPortable.

Firefox Portable

Java Portable 6 Update 23

Same Directory

In order to avoid a conflict with the locally installed JRE, we need to tell Firefox Portable not to scan the local registry for plugins.

Open Firefox Portable and in the address bar type about:config and press Enter. At the warning, click the “I’ll be careful, I promise!” button and search plugin.scan.

Set the plugin.scan.plid.all to false and close/re-open Firefox Portable.

Firefox plugin.scan

Last but not least we need to let Firefox know to use our Java portable. Go to the Add-ons Manager and set the JVM to “Always Activate” and you are done.

Office 365 journaling via rolling legal hold

1

If your company has a compliance policy to keep all emails for your organization, for 2 years lets say, then you can use a feature called in-place hold, formerly called litigation hold, that comes with certain Office 365 / Exchange Online plans.

So as soon as you create a user’s mailbox you would apply the in-place hold and retention policies to handle online archiving.

Another nice thing is that the in-place archiving rules still work. But not too worry the in-place hold still retains the messages there as well. So while messages are not journaled elsewhere, you get the exact same end result.
